Message from Scoutmaster John M. Papp
WELCOME! to one of the MOST ACTIVE Scout Troops in the Schenectady District of Twin Rivers Council, BSA.  Scouting is an excellent Adventure where the Scouts develop our program and activities.
Scouts?  Yes, the SCOUTS of this troop plan ALL Events, Meetings, Campouts.  This is the way our founder, Lord Baden-Powell intended, and we practice this continuously in 357.
Troop 357 has a very extensive history being Chartered since May of 1963, HOWEVER, new information has been reported that we may have existed since Early 1962.   Should the 1962 Date prove to be TRUE, we will be celebrating our 40th Anniversary up at Camp Boyhaven this Spring/Summer and YOU are ALL invited!!
For me personally, Scouting has given many opportunities, from Backpacking the Trails of Philmont Scout Ranch ('78),  Representing Schenectady in a specially created Scotland Contingent ('80), to service on Jamboree National Media Staff as the First Photo Editor for the Daily Newspaper "Jamboree TODAY." ('01)    For the Past 29 years in Scouting and as an Eagle Scout, Scouting has been a way of life.

In 2001, Troop 357 promoted 17 Scouts 28 Ranks, They also earned OVER 30 Merit Badges, 8 Community Service Medals, and 14 Other Recognitions.  Our Scouts contributed over 385 hours on 33 Community Service Projects, with our Adult Leaders bringing in another 175 hours!  Throughout the year, they participated in over 100 Troop/District/Council/Community Activities including Meetings, Events, Campouts, as well as assisting activities in 3 Cub Packs, resulting in consistent Crossovers due to this Troops Active Program.  Scouting on the Troop 357 Level has proven to be not as "Neighborhood Oriented" as Cubbing, where Scouts & Parents are found to be more than willing to travel for a Higher Quality Troop program.  This is proven in the diversity of communities represented in our Unit.
For 2002, we will be backpacking in the Adirondack High Peaks, attending Summer Camp at Camp Russell in Old Forge, High Adventure Canoe/Backpacking Trek up the Moose River Area, attending the National Order of the Arrow Conference (for OA Members Only), possibly electing 4 more Scouts into the OA, Graduating an Eagle Scout(s), attending the '02 World Brotherhood Invitational Camporee and quite possibly the West Point Invitational this May.
All of these noted experiences and far MORE are available to each and every Scout in Troop 357.   Troop 357 has Proven to be a Dedicated, Committed, Competitive and Spirited Troop where nothing is impossible.    From our numerous "Awards" at events such as the Deep Freeze, to literally Hundreds of Hours of Community Service.   The only "limits" found in Troop 357 are those not attempted.
There are those who "watch the parade of life," . . . . . . .Troop 357 "Leads the Parade."
"Join our Parade!"
